It’s time to get your router set up and connected. Follow the simple steps below.
Let’s get started
Set-up Wi-Fi router with 4G Dongle as temporary connection prior to installation
Remove the front cover of the 4G dongle by putting your thumb on the arrow above the logo and sliding downwards. Break the Micro SIM (middle size) out of the card and insert into the slot at the base of the dongle, as shown and reattach the cover.
Insert the dongle in the USB port on the rear of the router, then proceed to Power on your Router.
Connect your Internet service, once installed
Option A: SOGEA (DSL) Setup
1. Remove the white USB dongle if plugged in (make sure to keep this safe as you’ll need to return it at the end of your contract).
2. Plug the grey DSL cable into the grey port labelled DSL of the router.
3. Plug the other end of the DSL cable into your Openreach wall socket. Examples of the various socket type are shown. If your socket only has one port, as can been seen in the top row of pictures, you will need to purchase an ADSL Microfilter.
Option B: FTTP Setup
1. Remove the white USB dongle if plugged in (make sure to keep this safe as you’ll need to return it at the end of your contract).
2. Plug the Ethernet cable (white with yellow connectors) into the red port labelled WAN on the router.
3. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the Openreach fibre socket (if your fibre socket has more than one ethernet port, please use Port 1 unless informed otherwise).
Power on your Router
1. Clip the 2 parts of the power supply together, then plug the connector of the electric power supply adapter into the router power inlet port. Plug the adapter into a nearby power outlet.
2. Press the power button on the back panel. If the LED is blinking green or orange, the router is updating its software. If this is the case, wait until the LED turns
solid green. This can take several minutes – do not power off your device or unplug any cables!
Connect your network devices
Option A: Connect your wireless devices
On the back of your router you can find a label with:
- The Network Name – this name is used to identify your Wi-Fi network.
- The Wireless Key or password
Open the Wi-Fi settings on your device and select the entry that contains the Network Name shown on the label from the list of available Wi-Fi networks. Your Wi-Fi device will ask you to enter the Wi-Fi key or password.
To achieve optimal Wi-Fi quality:
- Always try to reduce the number of obstacles (especially walls) between your Wi-Fi devices to a minimum.
- Do not place your Wi-Fi devices close to other devices that cause interference (microwave ovens, cordless phones, baby monitors, etc.)
Option B: Connect your wired (Ethernet) devices
If you want to connect a device using a wired (Ethernet) connection:
- Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to one of the yellow Ethernet ports on the rear of your router.
- Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to your device.
Troubleshooting
The lights displayed on your router will help identify when your service is working correctly or when further support may be needed.
FAQs
Our Wi-Fi won’t reach every room in the property – what can we do?
Unfortunately, we can only guarantee the speed of broadband to the router, not the strength of Wi-Fi across the property. Larger properties across multiple floors or properties with thick walls may require a Wi-Fi extender to boost the broadband over a greater range.
Our Wi-Fi seems slow – how do I run a speed test?
Speedtest.net is a reliable speed checker but to get the most accurate result we would always advise running it on a device plugged into the router (ethernet cable) rather than Wi-Fi. Other options include fast.com or speedtest.btwholesale.com.
Can we upgrade to a faster broadband speed?
It may be possible to upgrade your connection. Please bear in mind this will add additional costs to your monthly invoice. Please contact our Broadband support specialists on 0333 358 3377 and choose option 2 to discuss.
What should we do with the equipment at the end of our contract?
Please ensure that you hold onto all contents including the box for the entirety of your contract as we require everything to be returned. More details of how to return your equipment will be sent near the end of your contract.
We would like to remove Broadband from our package – how do we do this?
Removing Broadband from your package is possible however there will be charges depending on how far into your contract you are. Please contact our Broadband support specialists on 0333 358 3377 and choose option 2 to discuss.
Can we move where the router is installed?
The engineer will always try to find the best place for the router during installation to ensure maximum range throughout the property.
Want to learn more about Broadband types? Here is some technical jargon for you!
SOGEA – Single Order Generic Ethernet Access; the new data-only version of FTTC with no voice component and no
phone line order required. Can be ordered on an existing phone line or a new copper link installed as part of the
process. Speeds of up to 80/20 available which will vary with usage in the local area.
FTTP – Fibre to the Premises; a connection delivered over fibre optic cable from the local BT exchange all the way to
the property. Delivers speeds 220/30 and 1,000/115. Available at certain exchanges only.
