When looking for the best energy package, consider the following factors to ensure it meets your needs and provides value for money:

1. Energy Usage and Needs

Usage Patterns: Analyse your energy usage (e.g., peak hours, seasonal variations). Some plans are better for heavy users, while others suit those with minimal consumption. If you are in a house-share and don’t want arguments about switching lights or the heating off; or you are a large family who use lots of devices at the same time, we would recommend our Unlimited Package. For a one-bedroom apartment, a Fixed Energy package is the way to go for predictable monthly bills and not paying for energy you won’t use.

2. Pricing Structure

Fixed vs. Variable Rates:

  • Fixed rates offer price stability over the contract term.
  • Variable rates can fluctuate based on market trends, potentially saving money but are riskier. ce introducing risk.

Bunch – we recommend Fixed packages because you’re in control of your bills and will not be open to market volatility, or energy providers increasing prices every quarter.

Time-of-Use Plans: Some packages charge less during off-peak hours, suitable for customers who can adjust usage to these times.

Bunch – We currently do not offer these plans because feedback from our customers is that they don’t do not have time to adjust their energy usage. If you are looking for a cheaper price, this would be a good consideration for you.

Hidden Fees: Check for additional fees, such as:

  • Connection/disconnection fees
  • Late payment penalties
  • Early termination fees

Bunch – we charge an early termination fee on Fixed Rate packages because we’ve already signed a contract on your behalf with an energy provider and that energy has been purchased for you, often at a cheaper rate than SVT.

3. Renewable Energy Options

Green Energy Sources: Look for plans that support solar, wind, or other renewable energy. Sustainability Goals: If reducing your carbon footprint is a priority, seek providers that are environmentally conscious or offer carbon offsets.

Bunch – we don’t currently have a green energy option but we hope to have one soon!

4. Discounts and Incentives

Sign-Up Bonuses: Some providers offer initial discounts or credits. Bundled Services: Discounts may be available if combined with other services like internet or water. Loyalty Rewards: Long-term customers may benefit from reduced rates or added perks. You should weigh these benefits up against the other factors when choosing an energy supplier; fantastic discounts but poor customer service won’t be a great long term experience.

Bunch – we’ll be launching a referral scheme this year for all our customers. This will give our existing customers and new customers £50 each for signing up to Bunch. We’ll also be launching renewal promotions, because we believe our existing customers deserve the best promotions we can offer!

5. Smart Technology Integration

Smart Meters: Does the package support usage tracking and optimization tools?

Bunch – we offer all our customers smart meters if they don’t have one. Although this means your energy usage is transmitted directly to the energy provider, we encourage you to take meter readings at least 4 times a year because technology, although great, can sometimes get it wrong! This means you can rest assured you’re only paying for the energy you use.

6. Customer Support

  • Availability: Check for 24/7 support in case of outages or billing issues.
  • Ease of Contact: Look for multiple communication channels like phone, email, or live chat.

Bunch – we are available 24/7 via our website chatbot Fin, but you can also reach us on the phone 0333 358 3377 or email hello@the-bunch.co.uk. You can also check our reviews on Trustpilot. We think it’s important you have a great customer experience so please do get in touch if we can help simplify your life and bills.

Steps to Take:

  1. Compare Plans: Use comparison websites to evaluate plans side-by-side.
  2. Read Reviews: Research the provider’s reputation and reliability.
  3. Contact Providers: Ask questions to clarify doubts and negotiate terms.
  4. Monitor Bills: After choosing a package, regularly review your bills to ensure you’re getting the promised benefits.

By carefully evaluating these factors, you can choose the energy package that best aligns with your budget, lifestyle, and values.
